Visit the blue streets of Chefchaouen, the spiritual city of Fes, the golden dunes of Merzouga, and the majestic High Atlas Mountains. This Morocco itinerary blends history, nature, and cultural experiences for an unforgettable road trip from Tangier to Marrakech.
(2.5 hours drive | 120 km)
We begin our Morocco journey in Tangier, the gateway between Europe and Africa. Leaving the coast behind, we head toward the Rif Mountains, soaking in panoramic views along the winding road. By midday, we arrive in the charming town of Chefchaouen, famously known as the Blue Pearl of Morocco. We spend the afternoon wandering the blue-painted streets, visiting the Kasbah, and relaxing in the town square. In the evening, we settle into a cozy riad for our first overnight stay.
(4.5 hours drive | 260 km)
After breakfast, we depart Chefchaouen and drive south toward Volubilis. This ancient Roman archaeological site gives us a glimpse into Morocco’s pre-Islamic past with its impressive mosaics and ruins. Next, we visit the imperial city of Meknes, where we admire Bab Mansour Gate, Heri es-Souani granaries, and the quiet medina. Our day ends in Fes, one of Morocco’s oldest cities, where we check into a traditional riad in the heart of the medina.
(4–5 hours drive | 180 km)
We begin the day with a guided tour of Fes, exploring cultural landmarks like Al Quaraouiyine University, Bou Inania Madrasa, and the colorful Chouara Tannery. Our guide leads us through the labyrinth of the Fes medina, where we witness centuries-old traditions in action. After lunch, we drive to Ifrane—Morocco’s “Little Switzerland”—with its European-style buildings and clean mountain air. From there, we continue through the cedar forests of Azrou to reach Midelt, a quiet town in the Middle Atlas, where we stay overnight.
(5–6 hours drive | 270 km)
Today, we journey deeper into southern Morocco. We drive through the Ziz Valley, a stunning stretch of date palms and rocky gorges. Along the way, we stop for photos and to meet locals in small Berber villages. By the afternoon, we reach Merzouga, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Here, we meet our camel caravan and ride into the golden Erg Chebbi dunes, timing our trek to catch the magical sunset. We arrive at our luxury desert camp, where we enjoy dinner and live Berber music under the stars.
(5–6 hours drive | 250 km)
After watching the sunrise over the dunes and enjoying breakfast at the camp, we ride camels or take a 4×4 back to the main village. Our route today takes us through Erfoud and the dramatic Todra Gorge, where we can stretch our legs and walk between towering canyon walls. Continuing west, we enter the beautiful Dades Valley, known for its colorful rock formations and fortified kasbahs. In the evening, we enjoy a traditional dinner and overnight in a guesthouse nestled in the valley.
(6–7 hours drive | 320 km)
On our final day, we leave the Dades Valley and follow the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We explore this ancient ksar, famed for its appearances in movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After lunch, we cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying panoramic views of Berber villages and valleys. By evening, we arrive in Marrakech, where our unforgettable 6-day Morocco tour comes to a close.
